Exciting Assistant Purchasing Manager opportunity for a unique and influential organisation that is following a significant Capital expenditure programme. You will be managing a variety of multi million pound projects within a range of commodities (particular focus on Capex & Opex).
This is a newly created role, that will get you involved a variety of commodities and purchasing activities for multi-million pound projects. A high level of responsibility will be given requiring the ability to multi-task and achieve sometimes tough deadlines. There will be a high degree of interaction with internal stakeholders and suppliers; therefore being able to communicate effectively at all levels is vital.
Working in a small Procurement team, this role is varied and offers significant autonomy so you will need a hands-on and adaptable approach. It gives a greater depth of responsibilities than larger procurement functions within the automotive and manufacturing sectors.
Assistant Purchasing Manager Role Details:
Working with the Manager, Purchasing and Supply Chain, the role involves sourcing a broad spectrum of items (Capex and Opex) as effectively as possible, whilst ensuring technical, quality, project lead-times; commercial risk mitigation and competitive factors are achieved. This focus will ensure that real value is provided to the organisation; whilst allowing it to meet its operational needs.
The Assistant Manager will support in all aspects of Purchasing including:
Sourcing of goods/services through sometimes extensive and complex negotiations with UK and overseas suppliers both over the phone and face to face
Analysing quotes to identify the optimum position for the organisation and making sourcing recommendations as appropriate. Implementing new agreements ensuring all financial, quality and delivery considerations have been detailed
Conducting stakeholder reviews across the business and at all levels to drive the delivery of purchasing projects
Proactively managing suppliers to review and renegotiate to optimise financial, delivery and quality gains
Becoming competent with the procurement systems (Internal procedures and Microsoft Dynamics)
Co-ordinating Requests for Quotations (RFQ)
Developing new processes and industry best practices
Supplier audits with focus on Business Continuity (ISO 22301:2012)
Reviewing, recommending and implementing opportunities for commercial and operational improvements to Opex spend
Understanding and awareness of contractual terminology to mitigate risk, and implementing new supplier agreements
Support and coaching of junior team
Assist with the development and support of key Purchasing strategies
As a successful candidate, you will gain a detailed understanding of the Purchasing process with particular focus on competitive tendering and negotiation practices. There will be extensive use of specific computer software and a variety of communication tools.
CIPS or Degree level qualification in a business related field are desirable
Experience within a similar buying or assistant manager role (Ideally in Automotive or Manufacturing)
Confident communicator at all levels
Excellent organisational skills
Computer literate (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Analysing cost data and commercial advantages
Managing difficult conversations
Flexibility to travel as and when required (Driving license essential)
Flexible to work hours as needed to get the job done
Experience using Microsoft Dynamics
Dynamic individual, keen to excel in the role and organisation
Works well as part of a small team
