We have a fantastic opportunity for a Buyer looking for a new challenge to join our Children’s Books category, based in our High Street Head Office in Swindon. Reporting into the Trading Controller, the principal objective of this role is to deliver maximum sales and profitability through determining the offers we make to our customers and successfully managing both the trading activities and profit and loss of the Children’s Books ranges.
What you’ll be doing:
Within this role you will be generating and delivering profitable product and promotional strategies in line with promotional deadlines – selecting and developing profitable lines and creating promotional strategies for ranges whilst managing supplier relationships and negotiations to deliver increase in net sold margin.
You will drive the category performance and increase yearly revenues and build strong relationships with Central Stores Operations and Regional Business Managers to execute effectively in-store key seasons by improving the customer experience.
You will create compelling customer focused offers which drive penetration into the category and monitor the delivery of income against forecast and previous months whilst keeping abreast of market trends and competitor activity in a fast paced environment, to help identify new opportunities.
You’ll be able to deliver meaningful reports and cut through the information/ detail in order to get to the real issue and negotiate reductions in supply costs and supplier incomes. You will manage yearly terms and conditions negotiations with key suppliers and conduct range reviews and undertake improvement of the product offer through effective range analysis.
You will have the opportunity to mentor and manage the Assistant Buyer to help develop, encourage and progress.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for someone with previous buying experience, ideally in a related industry with a fast paced product lifestyle with proven experience in delivering increased revenue and category growth. It would be great if you were educated to degree level or equivalent, however this is not essential.
You should be confident in supplier and stakeholder management with proven negotiation skills at a senior level and strong commercial skills with the ability to interpret the market quickly.
You should be able to remain calm under pressure and be engaging and influential with your communication. It is essential for you to have a high level of Excel knowledge with the ability to analyse and manipulate data quickly and an attention to detail.
You should have a strong awareness of supply chain and cost management, with a strong understanding of Profit and Loss. As this role is within our Books Team, it would be great if you had an interest in Books!
