We are currently recruiting a buyer for logistics services for a global conglomerate business during an exciting period of centralisation with strong growth ambitions. Our client is a manufacturer of speciality products based upon improving the wellbeing of the world’s population to be based in their offices in Amsterdam. This role is initially for 12 months so the requirement to start at a relatively short notice is essential.
In this role you will actively participate in sourcing activities with the goal of achieving cost reductions, while maintaining or improving quality or vendor service levels. You will work closely together with the Global Sourcing team who are responsible for the global sourcing strategy for the logistics services. Your focus will be split across long term projects such as assisting in preparing and coordinating bids as well as operational activities such as monitoring the purchasing process and negotiating with suppliers.
As the buyer, you have a key role within the organization. You will interact with sites, suppliers and colleagues from all over the globe on a day to day basis. This position would offer further development within your procurement career.
Buyer – Logistics Tasks and responsibilities
Actively participate in the sourcing activities for the logistics services category, with the goal of achieving cost reductions, while maintaining or improving quality or vendor service levels
Liaise with stakeholders to maintain required service level for logistic service providers.
Act as 1st escalation level for supply chain stakeholders in case supplier does not perform.
Select the appropriate transportation equipment in accordance with stakeholder needs.
Handle complaints and issues on delivery times and quality issues;
Preparation of monthly / yearly supplier performance reviews
Analyse supplier performance and share learnings within the organization;
Negotiate with regional suppliers of logistics service;
Assist the Sourcing Managers in preparing and coordinating bids, validate requirements information with stakeholders
Review, prepare, verify and/or approve financial and business transactions within established frameworks and guidelines
First point of contact / coordination to suppliers and internal stakeholders in terms of ordering and issue resolution.
Actively contribute to Performance Reporting
Buyer – Logistics Ideal Background
Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience within logistics or supply chain;
Relevant working experience in procurement or in a hands-on role, within an international and dynamic environment, for instance in a freight forwarding company or logistics /export /customer service department;
Organizing Land & Maritime transportation
Basic understanding of IATA, ADR, RID, IMDG, SQAS, HACCP, GDP;
Knowledge of Incoterms & Payment terms;
Advanced Excel is required;
SAP is an advantage
Excellent command of English. Additional language skills are desirable;
Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
Result driven personality and able to work autonomously;
Strong business orientation and understanding of business processes;
Strategic thinker and pragmatic worker;
