Category Buyer (Direct) – Pharmaceutical Industry
Location: Newcastle or Barnstaple
Salary: £25k – £35k + bonus + benefits
We’re seeking a logical and commercially-minded Category Buyer to proactively and effectively manage the procurement expenditure for our Direct material categories (including Packaging materials, Active pharmaceutical Ingredients and Excipients) across our 3 UK production sites. In this varied role, you’ll take ownership of your own supplier base and workload, liaising with stakeholders across the 3 sites to understand their requirements (from planned product launches to commercialised materials) in order to maximise savings and efficiencies wherever possible. Conducting thorough market analysis of your categories and spend profiles, you’ll assess any areas of risk or opportunity across the supply chain and use this information to define your purchasing strategies in-line with business objectives. Looking to the future, you’ll regularly review your suppliers to ensure they’re fit for purpose, adaptable to our developing business needs and offering the best service, compliance and value for money. Where required, you’ll carefully source new suppliers, conducting thorough RFI / RFP / RFQ activities, negotiating competitive commercial terms and issuing comprehensive contracts to protect our legal interests and mitigate risk. On completion, you’ll build strong working relationships with your suppliers to encourage favourable terms and facilitate effective contract management. To support the smooth running of the department, you’ll work on a range of interesting procurement projects (responsive and planned, large scale and niche), supporting cross-functional teams to ensure an effective and value-added service is delivered at all times.
With experience in a similar Purchasing / Category Buyer role, ideally in a high compliance manufacturing environment (e.g. pharmaceutical, healthcare, food), you’ll have demonstrable experience of contract negotiation, supplier management and the sourcing and selection of suppliers. Ideally, you’ll have experience of procuring contact, non-contact and printed packaging materials too. With strong organisation and prioritisation skills, you’re used to working in a busy and changeable environment and managing multiple procurement projects concurrently. You’re highly numerate with good computer skills; you have advanced Excel skills (e.g. complex formulas, pivot tables) and the ability to use ERP / MRP systems for data planning and interpretation. We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running – you show initiative, take ownership of tasks and have the tenacity, drive and ambition to get the job done. You’re a logical forward-thinker, always switching between the detail and bigger picture in order to make links between your projects and use your experience to anticipate any problems. With strong communication and interpersonal skills, you’re confident liaising at all levels, have articulate presentation skills and know how to use your negotiation, persuasion and influencing skills to get the best from any situation. You’re a good team player too, always happy to help out your colleagues, share learnings and provide advice as appropriate. Experience in a large organisation, a CIPS certification and business qualification would be useful, but the ability to travel to visit suppliers or other sites from time-to-time is important.
In return, we offer a competitive salary package (with bonus scheme), a generous pension scheme and 27 days’ holiday per year. We also offer a range of other benefits to support our team, including childcare vouchers, cycle to work scheme, subsidised restaurant facilities, sports and social club and healthcare options. Not to mention the opportunity to be part of a progressive and expanding business with increasing global reach, and the support of ongoing training and development. For reference, as the company continues to grow there is very real scope that this role may grow to cover our European site spend as well.
If you possess the experience, passion and ability to make this role a success then we would love to hear from you. Please send your CV with covering letter by clicking the Apply button by 25th August or for further details you can contact Hattie via email on hattie_booth [at] accord-healthcare.com.
