Job Profile Summary
The Category Specialist (CS) plays a supporting role in realising Downstream Procurement’s (DP) objective to become a world-class procurement organisation with leading capability in category management that delivers relevant, value-adding category strategies to BP’s Downstream businesses. The CS provides dedicated specialist category strategy development and implementation support to the Category Manager. Working with colleagues in the business interface they are responsible for engaging business stakeholders to understand business priorities and requirements, and ensure category strategies and implementation aligns with those needs.
Category Specialist Maintenance Services
Preferred location: Spain - Castellón

The primary focus of the Category Specialist role is to support the Category Manager to define category strategies by performing analysis and co-ordinating key inputs e.g. supply market analysis, cost modelling and benchmarking.
If you join our Downstream Procurement Manufacturing team, your responsibilities will be:
Stakeholder Management Support: In support of the Category Manager, be the interface between category strategy development and implementation by the delivery organisation, working in partnership with Category Excellence, GBS, Business Interface and Business teams
Category Strategy & Implementation Support: Develop category strategies for low complexity categories (dependent on category scope and seniority of Category Specialist)
Support CM to ensure a deep expertise within the category area, by accessing MI and external knowledge to ensure the category strategy is informed by an intimate knowledge of the supply market, key dynamics and latest thinking within the field
Working with the global category network and business interface organisation, helps to build understanding and support for new sources of supply in the business
Support local contract management, performance reporting and the monitoring and management of compliance
Sourcing and Supplier Management: Support local and regional contract negotiation and execution & supplier management activities
Execute sourcing (high-medium complexity categories) and be responsible for sourcing execution by GBS (low-medium complexity categories)
In the Category Specialist role, we have the following requirements:
University degree in a technical or related equivalent business field or a comparable degree program.
MCIPS/ISM qualification, or at stage of pre-qualification, desirable.
At least 2-3 years of category sourcing experience
3+ years of experience in category strategy development and execution
5+ years of experience in sourcing, contracting and contract management
Application in supplier management, 5+ years
Experience in tactical procurement
Experience in Ariba e-sourcing or another e-procurement tool is desirable
Solid understanding of P2P processes, and SAP system
Experience in the maintenance category is preferable
Strong English language knowledge
Willingness to travel – up to 20%
