* Tactical Operations – Own day to day, end to end operations and ensure that the business forecasted demands are achieved and delivered within the customer SLA. Ensure that all KPIs are monitored and achieved and identify improvements plans where required. * H&S Have a good understanding of current H&S requirements and ensure that the H&S manager is adhering to safe ways of working and performing regular audits. * Operational Performance - Ensure that the operation is performing in an accurate and efficient way. Create the tools to tracking performance at a shift and individual level to understand resource requirements and to be able to target poor performance. Overlay performance information to business forecasts to assess labour requirements and highlight any risks * Commercial – Understanding of the operating budget for the area of responsibility and to be ability to monitor and track operating expenditure in line with the budget. Highlight opportunities for improvement and risks to the financial forecast. * Planning – Establishing the tools and skills within the operation to effectively plan the resources required to achieve the operational targets. Ensure that the operation re-assesses the plan in flight to make necessary adjustments. * Culture - To promote a high energy positive culture where success is recognised and rewarded. Lead the operational management team with a clear vision, aligned to the needs of the business. To have and set high expectations within the operational management team. * Continual Improvement – to recognise the need for improvement and identify opportunities within the operation for process review, IT support or potential investment. To propagate the Continual Improvement ethos within the management team * People – To act as an ambassador for high standards within the operation. To develop and coach the management team to better equip them to complete their own roles. * Communication / Escalation – Communicate effectively with all members of the operational team and the wider business. To ensure key messages are effectively cascaded and ensure they are understood / acted upon. Where required to make appropriate decisions on escalation of operational challenges * 3rd Party Management – Manage key 3rd party relationships with Carriers, Agency providers and consumable suppliers. Ensuring that they achieve the required levels of service at a competitive cost. * Leadership - To be a leader within the logistics department but also across the business. To support the business in the absence of the Head of Logistics.
Experience & Competencies:
* Experience of leading a 24hr multi-channel operation, with accountabilities for the end to end operation * 5 years+ warehouse management experience, preferably within a Retail / Multi-Channel environment * Ability to see the ‘whole picture’ and assess current actions, activities and priorities * Service focussed, experience of operating in a KPI culture, taking accountability for results and changes as required * Strong planning mind-set and ability to map resource requirements. * Experience with warehouse processes and ability to identify process fragility and implement coordinated change * Continual Improvement mind-set, always looking to challenge and improve the current operation and wider business decisions * Knowledge of WMS / ERPs, Microsoft Nav experience beneficial * Health & Safety experience, implementation, compliance and reporting * Experience in managing large & diverse teams – up to 200 in a fast pace environment across multiple shifts and 7 days a week * Broad range of management disciplines; operations, people and 3rd party management
* Strong communicator * Good analytical skills – ability to source, extract and use data for problem solving * Numerate and PC literate, a strength in the use of Excel * Coaching / Mentoring approach to getting the best from the site management team
